This classic Art Moderne structure of brick and stone was built in downtown Ottawa in 1939. The renovation of this historic office building will provide a continuous home for the local newspaper, The Ottawa Times Newspaper, as well as for Tangled Roots Brewing Company, a commercial craft brewer and our sister company. We’re maintaining the strong horizontal lines of the building while replacing most of the glass block with vision glass. This will make for some much-improved interior space in terms of energy efficiency and quality of space. We’ll keep the curved glass block by the recessed entryway, along with the original doors and windows. A keen eye will notice that the building’s unique pilasters, brickwork, and central stone expanse are of varying heights which creates a stair-step effect above the entry. This effect is a hallmark of this unique architectural style. We plan on adding some dramatic lighting effects to highlight the architectural flair of the Times Building so everyone can recognize its architectural beauty!
