Located in Aurora, the second largest city in Illinois, this building was originally constructed in 1918. CLRED is looking to bring a Tangled Roots Brewing Company restaurant, brewery, event space, and eventually a basement speakeasy to downtown Aurora all within a block of the popular Paramount Theatre. The proposed plans include an 80-100 seat restaurant on the first floor, and about a 120-seat event space on the second floor. After the business is open and established, CLRED will consider transforming the basement into a speakeasy with aquarium glass looking onto the river and across to the Paramount. The first-floor restaurant would have an open floor plan so people can see through it from Water Street Mall and look across the river at the theater. The plaza provides a lively space for outdoor dining and events in the warmer months.
Aurora is located within an hour of Chicago along its Metra passenger train. Many visitors to the city enjoy River’s Edge Park, the Chicago Premium Outlets, Phillips Park Zoo, various universities, and the Paramount Theatre. The Fox River runs through the downtown, splitting into two branches forming a unique island housing the Hollywood Casino. Aurora’s downtown has been on the path of development and has seen great success as it continues to grow and thrive as a popular suburb of the city of Chicago.
